Yellow Cluster Fly, Thaumatomyia notata

General
Between 2.5mm-3mm long. Wing span about 5mm. The adults are yellow and black with a distinctively striped thorax and three large black stripes on the yellow background. The wings have sparse but clear venation.

Significance
Adult found in large numbers amongst grassy vegetation. In the Autumn they frequently inhabit buildings in large numbers where they overwinter. They are not of any real public health significance but just a nuisance pest in Autumn and Winter.

Control
Investigate voids and treat with a dust/mist application of insecticide, ULV treatment or a residual insecticide.
