Broad-Horned Flour Beetle – Gnatocerus cornutus

General  
The adult is a reddish brown, elongate, flattened beetle approximately 4mm long. The male has greatly enlarged mandibles. The slender – horned flour beetle has narrower mandibles. Larvae are active and yellow/cream in colour. Adults may live for more than a year.

Significance
A minor pest of stored products, cereals and flour are the principle foodstuffs.

Control
Infested commodities should be isolated and destroyed, or failing this fumigated.
The structure and fittings of the infested area should be treated with a residual insecticide. This treatment may be supplemented with the use of an ultra-low volume insecticide application.
