General
Open wingspan of 15mm-25mm. Upper side of forewing
uniformly coloured pale buff brown without spots or bands but with
veins slightly darkened. Wing scales are readily lost and wing pattern
is an unreliable characteristic for identification.
Significance
Rice Moth is primarily tropical but often imported into
temperate regions. It is associated with a range of stored commodities
including rice, cocoa ground nuts, oil seed products, maize, cereals,
seeds, pulses and nuts.
Control
Any infested commodities should be destroyed. An application
of a residual insecticide to cracks and crevices, wall floor angles
etc should be carried out. ULV space spray treatments will be useful
in controlling an infestation.
