The Food Safety (General Hygiene) Regulations 1995
Interpretation of Rules of Hygiene, General Requirements
for Food Businesses.
'Food business' means any undertaking, carrying out any or all of the following
operations, namely, Preparation, processing, manufacturing, packaging, storing,
transportation, distribution, handling or offering for sale or supply of food. Schedule 1, Chapter 2, Paragraph D, States that:
Windows and other openings which can be opened to the outside environment must
where necessary be fitted with 'insect proof screens' which can be easily removed
for cleaning. Where open windows would result in contamination of foodstuffs,
windows must remain closed and fixed during production.
The upgraded bill has already had an effect on the larger businesses and companies;
it would seem appropriate to make recommendations and provisions for the fitting
of insect screens to your customers premises as soon as practicable, thus ensuring
that your responsibilities under the act are fulfilled.

Sliding Screens
Two independently moving screens slide along a sturdy aluminium outer
framework to form a perfect seal, whilst allowing easy access to windows.
All screens are aluminium framed and have been designed specifically
for industrial and commercial use. Each screen has mitred corners and
a flat smooth face that make it unobtrusive and easy to clean.
Sliding screens can be fitted on the internal face of the wall, on
the corner of the window reveal or sit inside the window reveal to
suit individual requirements.
Screens are easily lifted out for cleaning, or storing over the winter
period.
All screens have a durable powder coated finish and
are available in White and Brown. They can be cleaned with a domestic
cream cleaner as and when required.
When used under normal wear and tear conditions materials and workmanship
are guaranteed for 12 months.
