Pest Proofing 10 Top Tips

Prevention is key, follow the steps below to help keep Rats & Mice away from your property.  Remember to carry out regular checks around your property for evidence of Rodent Activity


  1. Spring Clean - the less clutter, the better - ,mess provides hiding spaces and shelter for Rodents and even materials for them to nest.

  2. Regularly mow your lawn, maintain any shrubs or branches which may allow access to your property. Please note greenery close to your property will encourage rodents to dig under the foundations of the building.

  3. Do not leave pets food bowls unattended and regularly clean them.

  4. Clean up all food debris, seal bins and ensure bin bags are sealed before disposing of them

  5. Food should be stored in sealed containers - glass, metal or plastic. The higher you place food in your cupboards the better.

  6. Use expandable foam to close any cracks or holes larger than a ¼ inch

  7. All external pipes should be sealed with steel or bronze wool (garden hoses, water supplies, hot water tanks etc)

  8. Maintain any vents, gaps under windowsills or in attic space to ensure they that do not allow Rodents in

  9. If you have a chimney ensure you screen or cap it so stop Rodents for climbing up & down

  10. Outbuildings & garages require door sweeps, Rodents can squeeze through very small gaps
